As the scam apps resemble genuine apps with similar name and logo, users get confused and download them without realizing the scam. Malware then infests cell phones, giving free access to users' personal data.

Documents and passwords are leaked, which further facilitates the application of fraudulent actions, such as transfers and improper purchases on the credit card. In addition, malware can also take over the user's social networks in order to spread the misleading application and make new victims.

In order to reduce scam attempts, Google allows users to have access to the Play Protect, a service that notifies you when a malicious app is installed. Now, the App Store only allows apps that are in the official store to be downloaded.

However, these measures seem not to be enough to protect users, since, in the first quarter of 2022, the PSafe showed 19 daily app fraud attempts.
