Last year, the CBF released the 2023 men's football calendar, bringing some news worth clarifying. Starting with the interruption of the Brasileirão during Date FIFA and the final matches of the Copa do Brasil on Sundays.
It is also important to say that in addition to the stoppage of the Brazilian Championship games, during the call-up of the national team players, the teams will still have a 48-hour break between the end and the beginning of their games.
As for the time of the final games, according to the CBF, Sundays would be prime time for Brazilian football. In this way, it is expected that, with the change, the Copa do Brasil will become more attractive for viewers and traders.
For the former, because they will be able to plan for get-togethers while their favorite teams are playing, and for merchants, because they will be able to sell more during the weekends.
Important changes in Brazilian football
After a meeting of the technical council of the CBF with club directors, many changes were approved for Brazilian football in 2023. One of the measures unanimously approved was the increase in the limit of foreign players registered per match.
If until then each Brazilian team could have 5 foreigners registered per game, after the change, it will be able to have up to 7 foreign players.
Another very important change that will come into effect this year concerns the severe punishment for cases of racism. According to the summit, regardless of the number of fans who practice the discriminatory act, the club will be punished.
At first, the club will be fined approximately R$ 500 thousand reais. In addition, the club may lose control of the field and even be forced to play matches behind closed doors. Now, in a third case of racism, the team will then lose points, being directly harmed in the tournament in question.
The change was somewhat controversial, which meant that the CBF did not put it to a vote, deciding for itself.
Another measure is being widely discussed on the networks by fans and even being claimed by some clubs. In this way, the public and the players expect a reduction of relegation from series A to series B.
Currently, the bottom four of Serie A drop to Serie B. However, some clubs are demanding the CBF that only the bottom three of the first division drop to the second division. However, the Brazilian Football Confederation decided not to put this claim on the agenda at this time.
